The Problem: Children are being exposed to secondhand smoke, and adults and children are consuming less than five servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge Approach: The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District is addressing several community problems to help improve health throughout the city. The first program is childhood obesity and physical inactivity in the area’s underserved communities. The initiative will work with local schools to create a coordinated Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child health program. The goal is to introduce health-promoting practices in the school setting. Next, the initiative will create a healthy habits to decrease adult inactivity and unhealthy eating habits, along with reducing smoking in vehicles. The Health Department along with its partners will also launch a social media campaign aimed at educating the community about secondhand smoke.
